President's Day is a reminder of our great nation's presidents and of our heritage. It is also the perfect day to take your aging parents out for the day to celebrate family. What a great opportunity for everyone to catch up, and get out for the day. Here are a few things going on around the area to inspire your holiday agenda:
Missouri Botanical Garden has a lovely Orchid Show from now until March 25th. It is a fantastic display of around 800 orchids. Even those of you that don’t have a green thumb will enjoy this premier exhibit! Every winter, hundreds of bald eagles come to St. Louis to nest, and The National Great Rivers Museum in Alton, IL is a popular spot for viewing. The Wild Bird Sanctuary offers other varieties of birds on display. Finally, don't rule out The St. Louis Science Center as a great destination. The Omnimax Theatre, Planetarium and Discovery Room offer something for everyone.

This year, make Valentine's Day an occasion for your aging parent! Plan ahead by picking up these simple items at the grocery store (if they're not already in your pantry): a loaf of whole grain bread, honey, cinnamon, fresh blueberries and/or strawberries and a heart-shaped cookie cutter. Toast the bread then cut it into heart shapes. Drizzle with honey then sprinkle with cinnamon. Surround your hearts with fresh berries and you've got a fiber and antioxidant-rich snack for your loved one. Happy Valentine's Day!
